What Are You Consumed By?

"And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God." - Romans 12:2

In a world of technology-driven everything, it is difficult to not become distracted by the little things in our lives. From social media, to school, to work,  there are just so many things that fill up our daily schedules. As humans, we have a natural tendency to view God from a chaotic perspective

While staying busy isn't sinful at all, in fact "an idle mind is the devil's workshop." However, when we prioritize anything over our relationship with Christ, that is when it becomes sinful.

The definition of  "being consumed" is defined as being completely absorbed and controlled by something.  When you are consumed by something, you put your time and your energy into it. For everyone, it will be something different. However I can tell you, that nothing will leave you fulfilled. The Bible says, “the pleasures of sin for a season.”

The only thing worth being consumed with is with Jesus Christ! He is able to give us peace that passeth all understanding. As Christians, we have the right to be all in for Him. We don’t have to be luke-warm, we can be on fire for God.

How can you be on fire for Him?  Saturate yourself in His Word. Be a regular church attender and participate in church activities, as well as the worship services. Pray.  Never underestimate the power of prayer. Through prayer, we draw closer to God and are enabled to grow spiritually. Prayer is the connector between an ordinary human, and an extraordinary God.

If we are to be consumed by Him, we must know Him in an intimate way.  The Bible reveals to us that God is close to those who trust in Him. As we come to know God, and the more we trust him, God will reveal his character to us. James 4:8 says, “Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you.” Like any other relationship, it takes time.

Being consumed with Christ also requires surrender. We must commit our will into His hands, and to let Him lead. If we want Jesus to be the Lord of our lives, we must surrender to his plan, his purpose, and his provisions. Surrendering to Christ will complete you, and you will want to be consumed with him.

So, what are you consumed by?

Are you consumed with Christ or is there something else getting in the way?

Today, my challenge to you is to search your heart. If you are unsure, ask God to search your heart. He knows us better than we know ourselves.  Nothing compares to letting God utterly consume you.
